Mini Easter Basket
Morning everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the lovely spring sunshine happening around some parts of the country this week. I can’t believe it is already almost APRIL?! What is everyone doing for Easter this year? We have now officially been in quarantine for over a year so I love seeing how creative people have gotten with their zoom gatherings or park meet ups, but I’m so looking forward to seeing friends and family in person hopefully in the near future.
But in the meantime, if you’re looking for a cute festive activity to pass some time at home while also celebrating Easter this weekend, try out this simple craft! (I hesitate to even call it a craft because it is so easy) I made these adorable mini Easter baskets out of some craft supplies that I actually already had lying around the house.
To make these mini Easter baskets, you will need:
- Berry baskets
- Beading Wire
- Wood beads
- Pliers/wire cutters
- Hole punch
- Crinkle paper or some other type of basket filler
- Easter eggs or other gifts & treats!
The first thing you’ll want to do is punch a small hole in two opposite sides of your berry basket. Try not to punch the hole too close to the edge to make sure your basket handle is secure.
You will then want to cut about a 12” long piece of wire to make up the base of your handle. I was trying to just use supplies I already had on hand, so I’m not sure the exact gauge of the wire I used because the packaging was long gone, but make sure it is thick enough to hold its shape but thin enough that your beads will fit strung on the wire.
Pull the wire through the hole from the inside of the basket to the outside and bend the end of the wire into a loop to complete one side of the handle (just like the handle of a bucket).
String your wood beads along the wire. I used 21 beads but feel free to make your handle as tall or short as you would like (and you may need more or less depending on the thickness of your beads). I love the natural look of the wood beads but if you’re making this activity with kids who might like to jazz it up a bit, I love these rainbow pony beads or you could even string your kid’s name across the middle with some of these alphabet beads that are so popular right now!
Once your beads are secure you should just have a small tail of wire at the end. String this tail through the other hole from the inside of the basket to the outside and bend the wire up into another loop. Trim any extra and bend the end of the wire with your pliers to close the loop to match the other side.
The wire I used was already shaped in a rounded half circle shape so it created the structure of the handle pretty easily. But if you need to you can just bend the beaded wire a bit to get that curved basket handle shape.
Time to fill up the basket! I filled mine with a bit of kraft crinkle paper shred. Every time I get some of this stuff in a package or gift wrapping I always save it in a ziplock bag in my craft closet because I feel like it always comes in handy and is never something I want to spend money on. I also think filling the basket with a cute bandana or piece of fabric would look awesome as well. Or even a patterned paper cocktail napkin!
To style my mini basket, I filled it with these super cute speckled Easter eggs that I got at Michaels, but I definitely think I’m going to pick up some Easter candy at the grocery store this week to fill one up for my husband, one for myself, and maybe even fill one with dog treats for Kevynn! :)
Why is everything so much cuter when it is mini sized??? I think this mini basket would also be cute on your Easter brunch table filled with fresh berries or pastries, the possibilities are endless! I hope you try out this mini Easter basket trick, I would love to see how it turns out!
Since Easter is right around the corner, I thought I would share a few last minute Easter basket gift ideas as well! Here are a few Amazon gift ideas that would be perfect Easter basket gifts for the whole family (or at least your quarantine bubble) to spend time together this spring:
