8 Easy Ways to Refresh Your Home For Spring
I officially cleaned off my balcony this morning, marking the real start of Spring for me. I love sitting out there to read or drink my coffee and the weather was so lovely today with the birds chirping and the sun shining. A perfect 70 degree spring day! It got me thinking that I want to make some updates inside my home for this time of year as well. So here are a list of 8 easy ways to refresh your home for spring. Enjoy!

TREAT YOURSELF TO A FRESH BOUQUET OF FLOWERS
My first, and most obvious, recommendation to make your home feel more spring-y this time of year would be to bring in some fresh flowers into your decor. Trader Joe’s sells a ton of beautiful flowers and bouquets that are very inexpensive so pick some up on your next grocery run. Display them on a clean dining table and I promise you will feel straight out of a Nancy Meyers rom-com.
Or if you like to DIY, try making yourself some faux flower arrangements to brighten up your space AND get the extra benefit of being able to store these and use again and again every spring! Check out our 3 Faux Floral Arrangement Ideas for Spring post for some floral inspo.
2. SET UP YOUR OWN AFTERNOON TEA AT HOME
There is something about an afternoon tea experience that just screams springtime to me. And while there are a lot of amazing tea rooms around Los Angeles to visit, there is something really sweet about setting up your own tea station and hosting a friend or two at home.
Tea cups and saucers make such a fun piece of functional decor to collect, and I always see a ton of options when I’m out at thrift stores or flea markets. The more mismatched the better in my opinion. So hit up your next local flea market and source a few sets. You can break them out the next time you have guests over. Tea sandwiches and scones are highly recommended as well.
3. LISTEN TO A SPRING PLAYLIST ON REPEAT
Spring cleaning and just general everyday chores can be made so much better with a good playlist. So today we are sharing our very own Spring Spotify playlist, perfect for an afternoon neighborhood walk or a lovely breezy spring day with the windows open. Check it out below!
4. SWITCH OUT YOUR THROW PILLOWS
If you’re in the shopping mood this season and just want to add a few pieces to your spring home decor collection, my #1 suggestion for the most bang for your buck would be to invest in some seasonal throw pillows — or better yet, throw pillow covers!
Just the simple act of changing out your throw pillows on your living room sofa or your bed could make a huge difference in making your space feel more fresh and airy for the springtime. My tip would be to try to go for a spring pillow that still has a similar style or color palette to your general home decor so that it still feels like it belongs. And if you can manage to find some good cushion covers, that is an even bigger win because they take up way less room in storage! Here are a few of my favorite throw pillows that I’ve seen online this season:
5. UPGRADE YOUR DISH TOWELS OR HAND TOWELS
Another good thing to shop for with the changing of the seasons are dish towels or hand towels. They are fairly inexpensive (especially if you look for them at a place like Home Goods) and they are a functional household item that you need to buy in general. So the purchase of extra CUTE hand towels can be financially justified. Or at least that’s what I tell myself! :P
6. BRING THE SCENTS OF SPRINGTIME INTO YOUR HOME
They say that smell is one of our most powerful senses, especially when it comes to memory or evoking a certain emotion. So what better way to change up your environment than introducing some new scents into your home that remind you of this time of year! For me that would be floral scents like lavender and geranium, citrus scents like lemon, bergamot, and grapefruit, and fresh earthy scents like eucalyptus, basil, mint, and tomato leaf. All these scents give me a feeling of a clean home and fresh air.
There are so many ways to incorporate smells into your home, my personal favorites are burning a candle or diffusing an essential oil blend. But other options could be switching out your hand soaps throughout the house, or picking out a new room spray — check out our Homemade Spring Room Sprays blog post to find out how to make your own with essential oils! — or even through simmering your own stovetop potpourri — check out our Spring Stovetop Potpourri post, which also makes a great gift this time of year!
7. DECORATE WITH COLORFUL BOOKS
Books make such a beautiful piece of home decor, whether you are a reader or not! They look great displayed in a book case or even used to add dimension and height to a set of shelves.
If you have any hard cover books in your book collection, try taking off the outside jacket of the book to reveal the spine. A lot of the time hard cover books have a beautiful linen covered spine in a lot of different colors. Look through your hard cover book collection to pick out some colored spines that match the season. For spring I like to look for lighter and more pastel colored books, like white, cream, yellow, light pink, leafy green, dusty blue, etc.
And if you don’t have any books or need to add some more to your collection, you can find a ton of great books at thrift stores for super cheap. And it doesn’t even have to be a book you think you will read, it may just have a pretty spine that fits with your home decor, and that is fine by me!
8. DO AN ANNUAL WARDROBE CLEAN OUT
This spring refresh might be the least fun of the list, but it will definitely leave you feeling accomplished! Spring is the perfect time of year to do some home cleaning and organizing. And I like to do an annual closet clear out where I take out every piece of clothing in my closet and start from scratch making sure to only put back the items I have actually worn throughout the year. And donate the rest.
By refolding things like sweaters and rehanging things nicely on your hangers, your closet will automatically look way more organized and orderly which will bring you so much more peace when you get dressed everyday. It is also a great time to reevaluate what you have. I sometimes forget about warm weather pieces that I own after months and months of wearing leggings & sweaters every day. It’s kind of like free shopping, from your own collection. And hey if you now have some free hangers, this might be a fun excuse to do a little spring/summer shopping spree :)
I hope this list of spring refreshers has inspired you to romanticize this lovely time of year. Let me know your favorite way to update your home with the changing of the season.
