DIY Desk Flip Calendar (IKEA LERBODA Frame Hack)
As students are headed back to school in the next few weeks, I thought it was the perfect time to share an easy desk accessory DIY project to end your summer on a creative note. And who doesn’t love a good & simple IKEA hack!? Even though we carry our entire schedule in the palm of our hands these days, I think a calendar makes a really cute desk decor piece for any type of workspace. So today we are making a DIY desk flip calendar!
Follow our tutorial below to see how we took this simple $6 IKEA frame and turned it into a retro style flip calendar, perfect for your work from home setup or for decorating your dorm room this semester!
Dorm Room Decor Idea: How to Make a DIY Flip Calendar (an IKEA LERBODA Frame Hack)
You will need:
Colored cardstock paper
Number stickers
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Mini hole punch
Pliers
STEP 1: With a ruler, draw out several 3.25” x 5.25” rectangles on your colored cardstock. Cut out with scissors. You will need a total of 13 rectangles in however many colors you want to use.
STEP 2: Measure about 1/8” from the top of the paper rectangle and about 1/2” in from each side, make a pencil mark. Use a mini hole punch to punch two holes at these marked points.
**TIP: if you are using larger jump rings you may need to adjust the height of the holes so that the paper hangs in the center of your frame correctly. This specific height worked for my 10mm jump rings.
STEP 3: Stick your number stickers onto the middle of each paper rectangle. You will need one set of 0-3 stickers and another set of 1-9 stickers.
Keep these two sets of number cards in different stacks. The 0-3 stack will be the left side (month #s) and the 1-9 stack will be the right side (date #s).
STEP 4: Remove the glass from both sides of the IKEA LERBODA frame.
STEP 5: Using pliers, open up four of the jump rings and thread one through each hole in the two stacks of paper number cards.
STEP 6: Position the paper number stacks in the middle of the open frames. Using pliers again, close the four jump rings around the top edge of the frame.
And there you have it, a simple yet stylish way to display today’s date and add a fun decor piece to your workspace setup!
I love finding new & different ways to use IKEA pieces since they are so accessible and inexpensive. It’s also one of the best places to find items if you’re moving into a new apartment or dorm for the semester. So while you are there, be sure to pick up a LERBODA frame and try out this project for a unique decor piece!
Happy fall semester. Xo Rachael
