DIY Halloween Magnets (with Temporary Tattoos!)
A few weeks back we shared a post on how to print your own Halloween Temporary Tattoos at home with a free printable download of some cute Halloween characters (if you missed it, check it out at the link below!). I thought one post wasn’t enough to admire just how frighteningly whimsical these little Halloween creatures turned out! So I started brainstorming another project for this season.
Printable Halloween Temporary Tattoos
Did you know that temporary tattoos stick to more surfaces than just skin?? I had no idea about this until recently when I saw another DIY blogger, Katie Bookser, create these beautiful floral coasters with temporary tattoos. So I decided I wanted to give it my own spin with our Halloween tattoos! Follow the tutorial below to see how I used temporary tattoos to create some fun seasonal magnets to decorate my refrigerator door for Halloween.
HOW TO MAKE HALLOWEEN MAGNETS WITH TEMPORARY TATTOOS
Halloween magnets supplies:
Halloween tattoos (download our Halloween tattoos & find out how to print your own temporary tattoos at home at this blog post — or use any temporary tattoos! I think these Meri Meri ones are so darling)
Scissors
Wet washcloth
Unfinished round wood coins (I used 1.5 inch)
Matte Mod Podge
Paint brush or sponge brush
Magnets (I actually think this type is the strongest)
Hot glue gun
STEP 1: Choose your tattoos! You want to make sure you pick temporary tattoos that are small enough to fit on your wood rounds. My wood rounds were only about 1.5” in diameter, so I could only use the smallest size of the ETI Printable Halloween Temporary Tattoos.
If you are printing your own tattoos or your tattoos come on a sheet instead of individually cut out, be sure to cut out the perimeter of the image as close as possible.
STEP 2: The same way that you would do to apply the temporary tattoo to your skin, you are going to do this to the wood rounds. Pull off the plastic protective coat of the tattoo and lay the tattoo face down on the face of your wood round.
Cover the back paper of the tattoo with a wet washcloth and hold in place for about 30 seconds. Once the tattoo has transferred, the back paper should easily slide off.
Allow the tattoo & wood round to dry for a few minutes.
STEP 3: To be sure that the temporary tattoos are less “temporary” for your magnets, paint on a layer of clear matte Mod Podge on the front of your wood rounds to secure the image in place. Allow the Mod Podge to dry completely.
STEP 4: Now turn your wood rounds over and place a small glob of hot glue to the middle of the back and stick down your magnets.
Once the glue has cooled and set, the magnets are ready to stick to your refrigerator or any magnetic surface in your house!
I love how these magnets turned out! And how simple this project was. I think it would be cute to create a set of magnets to gift to a friend!
And with endless possibilities of temporary tattoos, you could create your own magnets for every theme and season! What theme of magnets would you want to make?
