DIY Spring Flower Wreath
If you're anything like me, and you do not have the best track record for keeping plant-like things alive in your apartment, have no fear! A flower wreath is a perfect decorative piece to bring the springtime inside. The artificial flowers will add a pop of color to your space with none of the responsibilities of house plants.
The craft store near my house opens up a seasonal "flower shop" at the start of the spring season and even though its' contents are made mostly out of wire, plastic, and dye, I can't help but pace the aisles building artificial flower arrangements, and then quickly returning them to their designated baskets. I had yet to find a crafting-purpose for these manufactured blossoms until now! Let's get started!
Supplies: wire cutters, round-nose pliers, thick wire, thin greenery wire, assorted artificial flowers & greenery
Step 1: Cut and shape thick wire into a circle of your desired wreath size. Twist the ends together to connect the circle.
Step 2: Trim off bunches of leaves and flowers from your artificial flower arrangements. Cut down into smaller, more manageable bunches.
Step 3: Starting with greenery as the base, twist the stem of the greenery around the wire wreath frame to hold it in place.
Step 4: Secure the greenery or flowers with a small piece of green thin wire where necessary (I found this is usually at the beginning and the end of the stem so it doesn't start unwinding)
Step 5: Repeat the previous two steps with the flower stems twisting over the greenery. Try to alternate the colors of flowers you use around the wreath.
Step 6: Add small flowers as embellishment to hide any remaining visable wire.
I love the look of these flower wreaths and other similar flower crowns I've seen on Pinterest lately. But given that I'm not going to be attending Coachella anytime soon, I needed to find some other purposes for my flower wreath. Besides hanging the flower wreath on my front door or above the fireplace, I love the idea of placing it horizontally in the center of my table and using it as a centerpiece for Easter celebrations. I added a few pastel colored ceramic dishes in the middle hole and filled them with jelly beans and chocolate eggs.
