Girls Night Craft Idea: Decorate Hair Brushes
My ideal Friday night is a girls night in. I’m a homebody through and through (obviously — I have an entire blog dedicated to crafting). Having some friends over to watch a fun girly movie, popping open a bottle of wine, and blasting a Taylor Swift album is my kind of night. And if a craft is involved, even better! But lately I have been sooo bored by all the classic “craft night” projects. Yeah we could paint tote bags, but who really needs more tote bags? Candle painting is cool in theory but IMPOSSIBLE in practice, at least for a perfectionist like myself. And beading friendship bracelets feels very summer 2023, IMO.
So I’ve set out to come up with some unique girls night craft ideas here on the blog! My personal criteria for a good craft night activity is that it should be simple enough to learn even for someone who is not a big crafter but still challenging enough for people to be creative. It obviously needs to be something that can be done while simultaneously chatting, drinking, and snacking. And guests should leave with a project that actually has some kind of purpose, and isn’t just extra clutter for your home.
So my first installment in this blog series are these fun bejeweled travel hair brushes! It seems like everyone is traveling this summer, so I think this would be the perfect activity to do at your next girls night to get creative and also have a cute new brush to take with you on your next getaway.

GIRLS NIGHT CRAFT IDEA: DECORATE HAIR BRUSHES
This project is super self explanatory, so I’m not even going to attempt a “tutorial” but basically you get to play around with the placement of different gems and rhinestones to embellish the back of your hair brush with cute patterns and designs.
I love this particular pack of rhinestones because it includes some fun shapes, like hearts and diamonds. There is also a really good variety of sizes and colors of gems.
I would recommend setting up your brush on a towel so you can roll one side up to keep your brush flat while working.
I had never heard of these rhinestone picker pencils before, and I had no idea what to expect, but they are actually really useful in picking up the exact tiny gems that you want. You just sharpen the end like you would a pencil, and press the end into the top of the rhinestone you want to pick up.
I would recommend laying out your design first and then going through and lifting up the gems to glue them into place. This B-7000 glue is great because it has a precision tip, which makes it really easy to glue in the exact spot on the brush where you want to place your gem. Then gently press the rhinestone into the glue. A little goes a long way so you really just need a small dot of glue. You can also easily push the rhinestone around into place before the glue dries if it doesn’t end up exactly where you want it.
Allow the glue to fully cure for about 24 hours before using your brush or you might end up with rhinestones in your hair!
This is a fun project to do out in the backyard or on a picnic because there is very little mess/supplies. The glue can also be pretty smelly, so I recommend doing it in a space with good ventilation.
I had so much fun coming up with cute designs. And I can’t wait to bring one of these little hair brushes with me on my summer vacation next week!
Hope you try out this project for your next girls night, let me know how they turn out! :) Happy crafting! xo Rachael
